Islamic Art Essay Summary Islam is one of the religions that has been established long ago since the early 600 A.D. As the Islamic religion spreads throughout the world, it also created a path for its unique style of art to flourish. The Islamic art is focused on creating artworks reflecting the beauty and respect for the teachings and traditions of Islam. In addition, the art forms of Islamic gives emphasis on the characterization of nature specifically flowers, plant forms and geometric shapes, as well. Most of these are used in exhibiting paintings, clothing, calligraphy, architecture, and other forms of fine art. Along with its development, these forms of art are vital and distinct because they act as the identity of its followers and its traditions. Islamic art- painting Okkir Okkir is an artwork made from geometric shapes and floral figures which also emphasizes on the leaf and vine structures. This art form is believed to be from Hindu and Chinese influences but it is now widely used in Southern Philippines specially in Maranao, Maguindanao and other Muslim- influenced places. An example of an okir style is the torogan or an eancestral home of the highest titleholder in villages in Maranao. The torogan is a symbol of prestige and power which is also embellished in festivities. One of its eminent part is the panolong or the curved timber that protrudes in front of the house that is styled with the okkir style. It is also usually found in textiles both woven and printed, carved in cemetery markers, inscribed in swords or knives and etched in brass and silver materials.
